University of Nebraska Medical Center – Central Utility Plant Addition
University of Nebraska Medical Center – Central Utility Plant Addition
DR Anderson completed an addition to the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Central Utility Plant. The project was completed during the “off season” for campus cooling. An existing structure housing a chiller and high voltage campus electrical distribution gear was removed. Temporary structures were built around he chiller and distribution gear as they remained in place while the new addition was completed around them.
The building addition was designed to house four chillers and associated cooling towers installed above the roof level. These massive loads in such a concentrated area required heavy steel framing and special foundations combining grade beams with structural slabs to support the chillers. All of this supported by 35 deep foundation drilled piers.
All work was completed in fall and winter months in time for the next cooling season.
